A 4th Year Commie Goes Out for Drinks in Toronto

Welcome to The Scoop where we ask students from all years and faculties about how they spend their time during a seven-day period.

Attention, Gaels! We're featuring week-in-the-life entries from all Queen's University students on a regular basis, and we want to hear from you. Submit yours here.

Today: A fourth year Commerce student spends Thanksgiving weekend in Toronto and goes out for drinks with his friends.

School: Queen’s University

Program: Commerce

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Salary: $0

Total Spend: $35.47

Day 1

8:30 am - This Fall Semester, my wise self decided to take an 8:30 am. class on Monday. This is no regular 8:30 am class but a three hour one too! The class is COMM 406 which is about Social Impact and Innovation so at least the material is quite interesting to listen to and not a dry quant course.

11:30 am - After class, it’s about time for lunch so I often head back home to make myself a meal while I browse what’s good on Netflix. The show I’m binging right now is Money Heist and would definitely recommend it.

1:00 pm - Time to study. During these three hours, I try to minimize distractions and finish assignments or anything urgent that would be due soon. Not much to say here but probably the most productive I’ll be for the day.

4:00 pm - I usually like to take an hour break. As a hobby, I’ve been doing sketches from time to time in a sketchbook I bought recently and find it a good way for me to relax.

5:00 pm - At this time of the day, I might ask my housemates or friends to go out for dinner but if not, I will usually stay in. After 6:30 pm is considered the end of my day where I’ll usually just study a bit more or go to the gym with my housemates.

Day 2

10:00 am - Since I have no class on Tuesday, I usually wake up at a later time which would be around 10 am. Also usually a bit lazy on these mornings so I might be spending the next half hour or so on my phone just browsing social media and the news.

12:00 pm - After lunch, Tuesdays are the days when I go buy groceries given the 10% discount for students. Although, discounts have now been extended to Wednesdays and Thursdays as well.

2:00 pm - Not much to say after this time, I do as I choose. To make this week sound more interesting, I will choose what happened the week of Thanksgiving. Mondays and Tuesdays are routine for me and what I described above is what usually happens. For this particular Tuesday, I ended the week early to go to a music concert since I really only had one class left for the week.

Day 3

10:00 am - On Wednesdays, I would wake up earlier but for this particular week, I woke up later given I was in Toronto and had no class. With any other week, I would have a class that runs from 6:30 - 9:30 pm but wasn’t going to attend this week.

12:00 pm - I recall that I surprised my family by getting home early which led to being a time where I caught up with family and started an early thanksgiving. As you might notice, my schedule is very flexible given I only have two three hour lectures to attend. The rest of my courses are online where I’m on track to completing my elective courses. This gives me a lot of freedom as a fourth year student and am enjoying it.

Day 4

9:00 am - Started the day fairly early and focused on editing my resume and other personal documents as I am still on the search for a full-time job. I spent a solid two - three hours in this area and found it to be a productive morning.

12:00 pm - Later that day, I spent some time with some of my close highschool friends where we got to just hang out, caught up with one another, and enjoyed each other's company through some good old games on the Nintendo Switch.

3:00 pm - Continued with school work and called it a day.

Day 5

10:00 am - Started the day at 10 am and finished the remaining school assignments.

2:00 pm - Proceeded to meet up with some friends where we went out at night for some drinks and explored downtown Toronto.

Day 6

Removed time schedule as I mostly stayed home and focused on completing assignments this day. Later in the evening, had a Thanksgiving Dinner with family and called it a night.

Day 7

Caught on the trend of the Joker film and decided to watch it with a couple of friends. Proved to be an amazing movie and praised Joaquin Phoenix’s acting. The rest of the day involved grabbing dinner and then going home to organize myself for the next week.
